Baptism is the first of the initiation sacraments (the other two are the Holy Eucharist and Confirmation).
Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC)
* Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." # 1213
* Infants years - 6 years: parents participate in the Baptism Preparation Program after which the baptism is scheduled.
* 7 years - adult: The Rite for Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which children are seven years and older and adults are prepared for Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. All three sacraments are received at one celebration, usually at the Easter Vigil or on Easter Sunday.
